OUR MISSION

“To provide education, empowerment and assistance towards the struggle of suicide, addiction and recovery.”

Our mission is to extend a helping hand to those navigating the challenges of suicide, addiction and recovery. The James Robert Barksdale Foundation believes that everyone deserves a chance of a healthier, happier life, and provides the necessary resources, education, and support to make that a reality.

The main purpose of the organization is to educate and empower individuals with the information they need to understand addiction, and suicide, their underlying causes, and the strategies for overcoming them. It is the goal of the organization to provide insights that can  help pave the way for successful recovery.

This foundation was created with a deep understanding of how these challenges impact not just individuals, but entire families and communities.

It is built on the belief that awareness, support, and access to resources can change lives.

WHAT WE FOCUS ON:

Our work is centered on providing the knowledge, support, and guidance individuals and families need to navigate addiction, mental health challenges, and recovery. We focus on meeting people where they are and helping them take meaningful steps forward.

Education

Providing awareness and understanding around addiction, mental health, and recovery.

We aim to break stigma by sharing knowledge, encouraging open conversations, and helping individuals and families better understand the challenges they face.

Support

Connecting individuals and families with the resources they need during difficult times.

Whether it’s guidance, information, or access to services, we are committed to helping people find the support they need when it matters most.

Empowerment

Helping people take meaningful steps toward healing and long-term recovery.

We believe in giving individuals the tools, confidence, and support needed to move forward and build a healthier, more hopeful future.

Why It Matters

Addiction and mental health challenges affect individuals, families, and entire communities every day.

Too often, people face these struggles in silence without the understanding, support, or resources they need.

Through awareness, education, and connection, we believe lives can be changed and no one should have to navigate these challenges alone.

  • 1 in 5 adults experience mental health challenges each year

  • Millions struggle with addiction in silence

  • Every life impacted affects a family, not just an individual

Awareness can start a conversation. Support can change a life.

In Honor of JR

JR was someone who brought light into every room a person deeply loved and deeply missed.

This foundation exists to honor his life by turning that love into action, supporting others through addiction, mental health, and recovery.
